    Yup.

in BC, Canada. And I'm wondering who all is here. You can't be here
because this is the popular thing to do, right? I mean, we must be

Conversation is why I'm here. I find the old style BBS interface is much easier to discuss things in. No pictures, no videos, no distractions.

I hope you are well. It's nice to meet you.

    Nice to meet you too.

Similar reasons for me. I did use BBS's back when I was a teenager in the 90s, and rediscovered them in more recent years. Part nostalgia, and part because I do prefer the simpler, no distractions interface.

I do have to say, Usenet with a nice Terminal client is the best of both worlds (Editing text on a BBS is a bit awkward still), but I still enjoy playing around here.

    Great to see you back!

If wanting to access message bases via NNTP, you're more than welcome to connect to news.pharcyde.org with your favorite news client to access all of the message bases! I tend to enjoy slrn (Linux console NNTP client, which I think has a Windows port). Tin is also a nice client.

Give it a go, you might like it!

    Nick

I'll try the NNTP server now. I use SLRN as well.

Ahh, this is nice. Posting from SLRN, and you have the other 'nets as well.

    Awesome. Thanks mate!

Same here. I was all about snail mail swapping in the 90s before I discovered Internet directly and I had some similar experience to BBS but already on shell based multi-user unix boxes + irc/email and usenet via `pine`.

If you don't like direct terminal access then try downloading/uploading QWK files and use multimail application. That will give you a bit of that 'pine' experience and local archive for everything.

A bit like downloading usenet via modem then read offline, respond offline and just connect to upload responses kind of thing.
